The government has increased the minimum support price (MSP) for rabi or winter sown crops by 6.3% and usually announces new interest rates a month ago to assure farmers that the new agricultural laws will not dilute MSP operations
The increase was in the range of 2.1% to 6.3%. Moong’s MSP increased by up to Rs 300/quintal, while the base price of wheat increased by Rs 50/quintal. The government usually announces the MSP in October each year. This time, it has advanced the announcement by a month, and officials said it will cast a shadow over the opposition’s attacks because they speculate that the bill aims to end MSP.
