According to data released by the Ministry of Agriculture, as of December 18, 2020, the sown area of rabies crops soared by 4.71% over the same period last year to 564.56 billion hectares (lha).
Since the annual change last week was 3.87%, this marks a good leap forward. The wheat planting area is close to 294 billion hectares (lha), an increase of 5.5% from the 278 hectares in the same period last year.
The pulse area soared by 6.67% to 141 lha. The planting area of Chana or Gram soared by 10.11%. The area of oil seeds is about 77 lh, an increase of 6.22% over the same period last year. The area of mustard has soared by 8.40% to 70 lha. The area planted with coarse grains declined, down 5% year-on-year to 41.28 lh. The area of corn and barley decreased by 5.90% and 6.32%, respectively.
