New Delhi. Exports of 2.77 million tonnes (mt) of non-basmati white rice were approved by the government.
Between April and November of FY24, rice exports to South Asian nations alone were valued $567 million, up from $1.24 billion over the same time the previous year. $341 million worth of rice was exported to Asean nations over the same period in FY23, compared to $541 million. The aforementioned South Asian nations do not belong to Asean.
India was able to export 1.75 mt of rice from April to mid-May 2024, compared to 2.35 mt over the same period the previous year, due to severe export regulations on rice. Official data shows that the country exported 15.7 mt in FY24 as opposed to 21.8 mt in FY23. Broken, non-basmati, parboiled, and basmati types are all included in the export basket of rice.
