New Delhi.India’s soyabean production for the Kharif 2026 season is expected to be reduced by about 2.11 percent at 107.93 lakh tons, despite an increase in the total seeded area and a robust recovery in output in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan due to improved yields. According to crop estimates published by the trade association Soyabean Processors Association of India (SOPA), the effects of drought in Maharashtra and Karnataka have slightly reduced overall soyabean output, offsetting improvements in MP and Rajasthan.
At the International Soya Conclave 2026 in Indore on Saturday, SOPA unveiled the first estimates of the crop, stating that production is expected to decrease by 2.33 lakh tons compared to 110.25 lakh tons last year.
For Kharif 2026, the trade association projects that the harvested area would be 109.98 lakh ha, while the seeded area will increase by 5% to 117.73 lakh hectares. The Agriculture Ministry’s estimations of 123.16 lakh acres are marginally higher than SOPA’s cropped area estimates.
Despite a 5% bigger seeded area, production is anticipated as 107.93 lakh tons, roughly 2.33 lakh tons (2.11%) below Kharif 2025 production. Sharp losses in Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Telangana overshadow the significant gains in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Crop failure on 7.02 lakh ha and low grain filling under extended moisture stress are the causes of the shortfall. The year’s total yields are expected to be 981 kg per ha, compared to 983 kg per ha last year.
