New Delhi. India’s cotton exports are expected to drop by over a third in the upcoming season due to a decrease in production. This is mainly because there is less land being used to grow cotton in certain regions. The Cotton Association of India shared this news on Wednesday.
Last season, India exported around 28.36 lakh bales of cotton. However, this year, the number is predicted to be around 18 lakh bales.
The decrease in cotton exports is because there is less cotton being grown this year. In the northern regions where cotton is usually grown, like Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan, there has been a 35% decrease in the amount of land being used for cotton. In Gujarat, there has been a 15% decrease.
This decrease in exports will help keep cotton prices stable compared to the rest of the world, according to the President of the Cotton Association of India.
In the previous season, there were 327.45 lakh bales of cotton pressed, but this season, it is estimated to be around 302.25 lakh bales.
As of the end of November, there were around 108.41 lakh bales of cotton available, with 69.22 lakh bales being pressed, 9 lakh bales being imported, and 30.19 lakh bales being leftover from the previous season.
By the end of November, around 54 lakh bales of cotton had been used, and 4 lakh bales had been exported.
Overall, there were around 50.41 lakh bales of cotton left at the end of November, according to the Cotton Association of India. mandibhav
