Jeera saw weak domestic and export demand

New Delhi.Following the end of the retail season, Jeera saw weak domestic and export demand, which caused it to settle down by -1.24% yesterday at 19,110. Bearish mood was exacerbated by enough current stocks and comfortable supply, but the main cause of the decrease was the lack of buying interest from both domestic and foreign customers. About 20 lakh bags of cumin are still held by farmers, but only 3–4 lakh bags are anticipated to be traded before the end of the season, leaving about 16 lakh bags in carry-forward stock. The GST council’s decision to lower the GST to 5% for FMCG and related exports is anticipated to boost both domestic demand and exports, thus the downside was minimal despite the recent decline.

Due to smaller seeding areas, production for the current season is predicted to be between 90 and 92 lakh bags, which is marginally less than the 1.10 crore bags produced last year. It is anticipated that Gujarat will produce 42–45 lakh bags of cumin, whereas Rajasthan might produce 48–50 lakh bags. When compared to the same time in 2024, jeera exports during April–July 2025 dropped precipitously by 19.81% to 73,026.35 tons. July shipments fell 15.58% month over month compared to June 2025 and 20.83% year over year to 13,778.60 tons.
