The production of soybean, groundnut, jowar and niger crops is likely to be higher than last year

New delhi.Prices at agricultural produce markets  over the past  days suggest that production of at least four kharif crops (soybean, groundnut, jowar and niger) may be higher than last year, while tur, urad, mung gram, sunflower and sesame may fall. Based on market prices, production of rice, maize, bajra and ragi may remain the same as last year.

The 2023 summer season production is as follows: rice 113.26 million tonnes; maize 22.25 tonnes; bajra 9.66 tonnes; jowar 1.51 tonnes; ragi 1.67 tonnes; tur 3.42 tonnes; urad 1.60 tonnes; mung gram 1.15 tonnes; groundnut 8.66 tonnes, soybean 13.06 tonnes, sunflower 0.06 tonnes, sesame 0.40 tonnes, niger 0.03 tonnes.

With 32.52 million bales of 170 kg each produced in 2023-24, cotton seems to be the only crop to have seen a slight fall in prices over the past  days despite a reduction in the area under cultivation. Data shows that cotton (medium) is currently being sold at an average of Rs 6,993/quintal in mandis, slightly lower than the average price of Rs 7,134/quintal in October.
